Experience & Education

As an Online Capabilities Trained Grief Recovery Method Specialist  and a highly experienced Trauma-Informed  educator and Clinical Counsellor, I serve Vancouver, Canada and work with many clients  worldwide using video conferencing.

My early experiences led me to my special interest in helping those who have lost a parent though death or through life-altering or life-threatening  physical/mental illness. After graduating from Harding University in the USA with a B.A. in Special Education, I was privileged to work with families in a multinational faith community for 26 years. I've been a counsellor since 2008, transitioning in 2016 to full time teaching, training and counselling.

Whether you are vaguely dissatisfied or struggling to even make it through a day, I can help YOU build the life you long for after life altering events.

I offer you a warm welcome  to contact me via email to set up a  FREE  30 minute consultation. I usually respond within 24 hours.  I meet clients Tuesdays - Thursdays  8am to 5pm PT and Saturday mornings.  I  easily accommodate clients in the USA, Canada, Philippines, Hong Kong, Hawaii , New Zealand as well as Great Britain, Eastern and Western Europe, and Africa.

Professional Organizations

I am a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) in good standing with The Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA) #2177

The CPCA promotes professional counselling practice and deals with inappropriate practice, which helps provide protection for the public seeking help. Each member fulfills specific criteria that must be met before membership can be obtained.

The Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA) is a Canadian non-profit Society registered in accordance with the National Corporate Registry of Canada. The Association is governed by a Board of Directors which is elected annually by the members of the Association.

CPCA Members are Registered Professional Counsellors and Master Practitioners in Clinical Counselling who are regulated and have received the RPC and/or MPCC designations upon meeting competency-based criterion for membership.

Since our founding in 1990, the CPCA has been dedicated to the promotion of public confidence and trust in the counselling profession in Canada. The CPCA serves the public from coast to coast.

The original inclusive Counselling Association for mental health counsellors in Canada.

My Therapeutic Approach

My counselling is holistic, compassionate, and person-centered. It is collaborative in nature, with the client and therapist participating as equal partners in both goal-setting and working together to reach those goals. I use an integrative approach to counselling focusing on developing mutuality and compassion.

I draw from Compassionate Communication – based on the principles of Nonviolent Communication by Dr. Marshall B. Rosenberg, cognitive behavioural therapy as used by Dr. David Burns, and interpersonal neurobiology by Dr. Dan Siegel.  Other modalities include Adult Attachment Theory as taught by Sarah Peyton, Dr Sue Johnson and Diane Poole Heller.  Polyvagal Theory  helps us understand the connection between our body sensations - heart rate, blood pressure, our general wellbeing and rise and fall of our emotions.  I use principles of spiritual/pastoral counselling.

Goals of Therapy

Therapeutic goals are set collaboratively with the client. Some common goals are increased self-awareness, improved communication skills, improved relationships, increased self-esteem, improved mood, positive lifestyle changes, improved problem solving and decision making, etc.

After therapy, my clients report a shorter return to set point when moods rise and fall and increased ability to talk with their teen children/parents and other family members. They have learned how to express their observations and recommended strategies to superiors at work. And to understand their own core values as they discover methods to live in harmony with those values.
